Guadalupe Lopetegui earned her PhD at the University of the Basque Country, where she has been ‘Profesora Titular’ of Latin Philology since 1995.
Following her doctoral dissertation (Edition and Study of the Latin Documentation of Sancho VI of Navarre), her research has focused both on linguistic and formal aspects of documentary Latin and on more strictly literary questions within the field of medieval Latin philology. Her current lines of research include the following:
1. The relationship between medieval Latin and the spoken languages from the perspective of historical sociolinguistics, through the analysis of documentation, especially from Navarre.
2. The study of theoretical and practical aspects of late antique and medieval ars rhetorica and its application in texts of various kinds.
3. Historiographical and hagiographical literature of the Carolingian period.
4. The study of various aspects of vertical communication, especially the relationship between text and image in didactic poetic texts.
